Part 14: Connection Charts - Reading the Composite of Two Designs

From Ra Uru Hu’s “Understanding Our Design in Relationships” (1998)

“The composite chart is the relationship. Not the two people — the design that’s born between them.”
Ra Uru Hu

What Is a Connection Chart?

When two people come together, their individual designs merge to form a third entity — the Connection Chart (or Composite). This chart isn’t “you” or “them” — it’s the mechanical being that emerges between you.

Ra taught:

“When you enter a relationship, you are no longer alone. There’s a third passenger in the vehicle now.”

The Connection Chart reveals:

  • Who dominates, who compromises

  • What centers become defined when you’re together

  • Where the magnetism and tension arise

  • Which themes emerge that don’t exist individually

Three Key Concepts in Connection Charts

1. Definition Changes

Two single definition types may become split when together. Or two split definition types may suddenly become one.

“The mechanics between two people alter their individual flow. It’s no longer about your chart — it’s about the chart of the relationship.”

2. Activation of New Channels

When one partner brings Gate 48 and the other Gate 16, together they form Channel 48-16 (Waves of Talent). This activates an energy neither person has alone.

These “bridged” channels often become:

  • Points of creativity

  • Zones of tension

  • Magnetic places of co-dependence

3. Relationship Theme

Each connection chart expresses one or more relationship themes:

  • Electromagnetic: You bring one gate, they bring the other. Sparks fly.

  • Dominance: One partner has a whole channel the other doesn’t.

  • Compromise: One has a full channel; the other only one gate.

  • Friendship (Companionship): Both share the same channel.

Ra would say:

“Don’t get caught up in the attraction. Read the relationship. You fall for the chart — not the person.”

Understanding Each Component

Let’s break down what we look at in a connection chart.

1. Centers

Watch for:

  • Centers that are open in both people – highly sensitive zones

  • Centers that become defined together – “activation centers”

  • Centers where only one person is defined – dominance or conditioning

A defined Emotional Solar Plexus between two open emotion types? Get ready for a rollercoaster.

“The centers show what’s possible — and what’s painful.”

2. Channels and Gates

We examine:

  • Complete channels formed together (electromagnetics)

  • Partial channels that cause compromise

  • Channels that are doubled (companionship)

Electromagnetic channels = chemistry
Compromise channels = challenge
Dominance channels = influence
Companionship channels = peace (but not always passion)

“The places you’re pulled most intensely are often the ones you least understand.”

3. Conditioning Themes

If you have an open G Center, and your partner has it defined, you may:

  • Feel drawn to their direction in life

  • Try to follow their identity

  • Lose your own sense of self

Ra said:

“Most people are trying to be what their partner is. This is not love — it’s abandonment of the self.”

4. Undefined Together = The Wild Zone

If both of you have an open Will Center (Ego), for example, no one is proving anything… or everyone is overcompensating.

Ra called these zones:

  • “Open vulnerabilities”

  • “Conditioning black holes”

  • “Silent war zones”

“It’s not about what’s there. It’s about what isn’t — and how you deal with it.”

The Mechanics Rule

No matter how much love, attraction, shared values or chemistry there is… the mechanics always rule.

You can love someone deeply — but if your connection chart is filled with intense compromise and no awareness, you’ll suffer.

Ra:

“You can’t fix what’s mechanical with emotion.”

How to Work with a Connection Chart

Step 1: Respect the Composite

It’s not about “who’s right.” It’s about the design of the relationship.

Step 2: Know Your Role

  • Are you compromising?

  • Are you dominating?

  • Are you walking in companionship?

Step 3: Follow Your Strategy & Authority

Even in a complex connection, your decision-making must come from your own design, not from what the relationship makes you feel.

Why Ra Focused on This

Ra saw relationships as the biggest source of suffering for the not-self. People feel:

  • Incomplete without the other

  • Trapped with the wrong person

  • Confused by attraction that turns into resentment

But when you learn to read the mechanics, you gain freedom.

“Your relationship isn’t a mystery. It’s a map. Learn to read it.”

Summary of Part 14:

  • The Connection Chart is the energetic being formed by two people’s designs

  • It shows where attraction, resistance, support, and challenge occur

  • Key themes: dominance, compromise, companionship, electromagnetics

  • Centers, channels, and definition changes are all vital to observe

  • Awareness dissolves blame and reveals truth

  • Strategy and Authority are your navigation tools — even in love
